Every year Chicas Latinas de Sacramento selects an underserved elementary school in Sacramento County as it’s shoe-drive recipient and collects new shoes for the students, with a goal of providing every child with a new pair of shoes to start the new school year with.
The students who attend our sponsored schools live in underserved Sacramento communities and lack basic back-to-school supplies. An often overlooked and basic necessity — shoes. Shoes that fit, are free of holes, have intact soles, and are not a hand-me-down are a luxury item to many of the children who attend our sponsored schools. It is our goal to see that EVERY child at our sponsored school of the year is able to start the new year on the right foot!
“Starting Off on the Right Foot” History:
2014 – Hagginwood Elementary: Distributed 100+ pairs
2015 – Woodbine Elementary: Distributed 400+ pairs
2016 – Del Paso Heights Elementary: Distributed 500+ pairs
2018 – D.W. Babcock Elementary: Distributed 500+ pairs
2019 – Glenwood Elementary School: Distributed 500+ pairs
2020 – Woodridge Elementary School: NEED 800+ pairs!
At the beginning of each year, our board of directors select a local elementary school to be the beneficiary of “Starting Off on the Right Foot.” Our Chicas Latinas member work diligently through the spring and summer months to secure partnerships, host fundraising and donation drive events, and build a robust volunteer team ~ so that we can provide EVERY child at our sponsored school with a new pair of shoes for the school year.
With the help of our community, Chicas Latinas de Sacramento is able to (year after year) provide a whole student-body with the joy of new shoes — shoes that fit and are free of holes — so that they can focus on their education.
